Join us for a watercolor party, an afternoon to play while exploring our watercolors and an array of the studio’s fun art supplies! 

This is a new variation of Deborah Stein’s most-loved workshop at LDBA and a chance to have fun while you play, explore and lose yourself in the artistic process. On the table will be fun objects, wildflowers and bits from autumn in Santa Fe to inspire as Deborah shows you how to create simple no-see handmade books to fill with your studies, inspirations and guided imaginings. Next we’ll fill them while we try our hand at watercolor lettering to create painted poems, quotes, spells, and recipes you can use as small gifts and love letters. 

From the inspirations on the table we’ll explore patterns from nature and finally we’ll take our painted papers and experiments to make beautiful cut-and-collaged paper dolls of people, also wonderful gifts to take home!

Come with a poem, quote, recipe or anything you’d like to work with! This class is open to anyone on any leg of their watercolor journey. All materials provided and you are welcome to bring your own glue stick or paintbrush.

Deborah Stein lives, paints and writes in NYC and the Embudo Valley in New Mexico. She teaches visual narrative workshops, runs twice a year artist residencies. Deborah studied the passing on of traditional arts with a toymaker family in Northern India, worked with NYC school kids as a museum educator at the Museum of Arts & Design and has traveled and taught alternative arts education workshops about seeing and translating the world in new ways for adults and children for a lifetime.
