Where Land Meets Sky: The New Mexican Landscape in Late Summer w Deborah Stein 9/14/24
Join us for a workshop celebrating the New Mexico landscape in harvest season!
We’ll explore why artists have been drawn to depicting the landscapes of New Mexico in myriad ways for centuries and begin to consider our own singular vision of place. You’ll get to experiment with the beautiful handmade watercolors of LDBA as you envision the lines and forms where land meets sky. With Deborah’s help, you’ll translate your unique visions of the colors and shapes of the late summer landscape: the changing sun and foliage, the sky and clouds, the moon and stars through techniques such as wash, layering and brushwork. You’ll imagine and mix luminous color combinations to evoke the very special wild flora and fauna of Northern New Mexico and explore how to find the light, clarity and mood of your skies and clouds and the weight of the ground below and its flora and fauna.
In this workshop, we’ll play and get loose, and explore intuitive ways of painting and drawing the landscape in untraditional ways to encourage you to develop your sense of play and let go of perfection. Deborah will discuss the benefits of using handmade paint, how to choose paper and ways you can set up your own practice on the road and at home! You’ll leave with a new sense of what painting with watercolor can be and some beautiful studies to inspire you going forward.
All skill levels welcome and all materials provided but feel free to bring your favorite brush and LDBA palette.
