Although similar to our other natural reds, Venetian, Rosso Pompei, and Rosso Inglese, this natural red oxide is a bit more zipped up… masculine, if you will. Something about it reminds me of oxblood boots, fire-lit dens sipping on Scotch, or of rose leaves that turn this color in early winter. Tones of warm brown peek through the dark brick color, it’s quite opaque and waters down to a lovely warm dusty pink-red earth color. This natural red iron oxide is from ocher deposits in the French quarries of Gargas and Rustrel nestled in a 12 mile long enclave in the heart of the Luberon Mountains, the ocher country.
